Students are exposed to the psychological facts, principles, and phenomena associated with each of the major subfields in psychology. Course Objectives: After completing this course, the student will be able to:
Materials: Myers Psychology for AP by David G. Myers – have this with you EVERY class period. Fifty Psychology Classics by Tom Butler-Bowdon A pen or pencil is necessary every time we meet. Expectations:
Late Work: As per the late policy of the SCHS Social Studies Department, assignments turned in late are worth a maximum of 50% of the original points until our next class period, after which no late work will be accepted. Cheating: Cheating is absolutely unacceptable. If you are caught cheating in any way, your parent will be notified and you will receive a zero. Grading Policy: · Classwork/HW/Projects/Essays=40% · Quizzes/Tests = 45% · Final Exam = 15% Extra Credit: Extra Credit is regularly available. Pay close attention to my Weebly page for opportunities. Other Suggestions:
Important: It is the student’s choice to take AP Psychology. It is the student’s responsibility to stay on task, keep up with the assignments and turn in homework on time. Students have until mid-quarter 1st quarter to drop this course and transfer into General Psychology or another course. Note: Students will receive an assignment/activity schedule every 2-3 weeks, laying out specified readings from the text and outside sources, as well as test days and homework due dates. This calendar can also be found on my Weebly page. Vocabulary (“TERMS”) Work: Each student is required to turn in vocabulary terms by the designated due date, and these terms may be used during the chapter test. THEY MUST BE HANDWRITTEN; otherwise, they will not receive credit. I highly recommend purchasing a three-ring binder in order to keep all of your vocabulary organized in order to study for the AP Exam. Unit Tests: It is common that you will be allowed to use homework assignments and quizzes (in addition to terms on the test), but there are occasional exceptions. I will let you know the unique conditions as they arise, at least one week prior to the test. This is another reason you should have a well-organized binder for class! FINAL: There will be a first semester final, worth 100 points, and a second semester final worth 100 points. The one 2nd semester will cover the entire year. NO NOTES or TERMS or BOOK CAN BE USED on the finals. MOST of the questions for the finals will be taken directly from unit tests, so keep them and use them to study. Plagiarism Policy: Because of easy accessibility to and “borrowing” of electronic and other forms of information, plagiarism has become a major educational concern. Plagiarism arises out of the following research/writing/homework activities:
Because plagiarism is both ethically and legally wrong, none of these activities are acceptable in the classroom. Following are the consequences of a detected plagiarism:
